Keiskamma Art Project UK 2001

The Keiskamma Art Project was set up in 2001. This embroidery project enables women to improve their sewing skills with a view to making items to sell, and to create embroidery artwork. Embroidery teachers from the UK visit the project at regular intervals to teach embroidery and other sewing techniques.

Health Support 2002

The health needs of the community are huge. Keiskamma Friends UK raises funds to support local health programmes, and to promote people's right to access quality healthcare.

Capoeira 2003

In February 2003 students of Abolicao Capoeira Oxford set up a capoeira group for children and young adults in the village of Hamburg. Members of the Oxford capoeira group visit regularly, and the enthusiasm of the local children grows constantly.

Gogos: The Grandmothers' Project 2008

In August 2008 a group of women from Oxford, UK joined with the local Keiskamma grandmothers. Together they set up the Gogos (Grandmothers) Support Group. This project is helping grandmothers to deal with the difficult social and financial issues faced when bringing up children whose parents have died from illnesses associated with HIV/AIDS.
