03.04.07 The KAT-Walk On 21 March 2007 twenty-six Keiskamma Friends from UK embarked on a fund raising walk through the beautiful forests and along the exquisite beaches of the Eastern Cape. The walkers raised over £100,000 to help the work of the Keiskamma AIDS Treatment Programme. Read one participant's blog here (external site).
22.01.07 Poverty Alleviation Legacy (PAL) was set up to help the people of the region cope with the financial pressures of every-day life: funeral expenses, education, medical bills, and so on. Find out how you can be a PAL here.

Keiskamma Trust Founder Wins South African Citizen of the Year. We are proud to tell you that Carol Hofmeyr, Director and Founder of the Keiskamma Trust, has been awarded the South African Citizen of the Year Award 2006. More here.

A Jolly Dolly Day. Mondays in Hamburg are children’s clinic days. Normally very boring for toddlers who have travelled far to get there and for whom there is nothing much organised. Monday September 25th, 2006 was different.On this Monday we opened a new play area for kids and gave out the dollies made through the ‘One Doll One Child Campaign’. More here.


4.11.06 Huberta the Hippo. It is not know why in 1928 Huberta the Hippo left her home in Zululand. After crossing 122 bridges and travelling approx 1,600km she arrived at the Keiskamma River. Children's book illustrator Sara Garson and the people of Hamburg worked together to recreate Huberta’s story. Learn more here.
01.08.06 Proud Mayor. On July 20th Mr. Sakhumzi Somyo, the Mayor of the Amathola District, Eastern Cape, visited the village of Hamburg. He came to attend a meeting to present his office’s plan to develop Hamburg into an Artists’ Center. More here.
01.07.06 Thai Princess Learns of the Project. In October 2005, Jan Chalmers, a Keiskamma Friend, presented Her Royal Highness Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, Crown Princess of Thailand, with a copy of the Keiskamma Art Project book. More here.
01.07.06 Nceda Ndise Ebantwaneni. The “Pick Me Also for Your Child" exhibition is a group of religious works in oil-paint, wire and stitch. More in our gallery here.

Keiskamma Graduates. From Workers to Students to Graduates. This day five young people from Hamburg received their degrees. More here.


01.06.06 Dance, Movement & Music. Zelide Jeppe is a dancer and choreographer originally from South Africa, now living in London. She recently spent three weeks with Keiskamma Arts. More here.
01.06.06 One Doll One Child. The children of the villages of the Keiskamma area are facing daily the erosion of their families and the community through HIV/AIDS. This fund raising drive is aimed at providing children in the Keiskamma area with something that will not be taken from them. More here.

25.04.06 Delegates Visit Photo Album. In January delegates from The Keiskamma project visited the UK and France to strengthen ties between the women and men of the region and their International Friends. 2006 New Roof. Donations from Keiskamma Friends have funded the refurbishment of the roof of Studio Two. More here.
2006 Virgin of the Roses. The cartapesta tuition in July 2005 from Luisa Cotardo, has lead to the creation of the Virgin of The Roses Altarpiece. More here.

2006 Keiskamma Tapestry in Parliament. The National Standard Bank of South Africa has purchased the Keiskamma History Tapestry, and loaned it to be exhibited for an extended period in the Parliament in Cape Town. More here.
2006 The Knysna Tapestry illustrates the colourful story of the area, using spectacular imagery of towering yellowwood trees, grey elephants, and green forests, with the Outeniqua Mountain range in the distance, and ships passing between the Knysna rocks. More here.
2006 Altarpiece Unveiling. The altarpiece looked magnificent. Standing in splendour in the chancel it seemed as if it had always belonged there. Includes video. More here.
2005 The Great Cattle Killing. This is one of the stories that would never fade in all generations of the Xhosa Nation. Even though a generation a century has passed since this incident occurred, it feels like yesterday. More here.
2005 Appeal for Funds. Having got over the nitty gritty of acquiring the building for the AIDS and Health Clinic, it is finally a reality and doing a brilliant job helping the ill, some of them seriously so and including a child and a year old baby. More here.
2005 Teaching New Skills. Luisa Cotardo lives in Lecce South Italy. She worked with the women of the project this July teaching cartapesta an ancient Italian art form with paper. More here.
2004 A Xhosa Triptych: inspired by a work created in 16 century Germany, the new Keiskamma art piece is a modern interpretation and shows life as it is today in the villages. More here.
2004 The Keiskamma Tapestry is a beautiful embroidered representation of the history of the San and Xhosa people of the Eastern Cape of South Africa. It depicts images of endurance and hope. More here.
