Teaching New Skills

Luisa Cotardo lives in Lecce South Italy. She worked with the women of the project this July teaching cartapesta an ancient Italian art form with paper.

"I went where the red sun goes down into the Keiskamma River. Thanks to my roses made with “cartapesta leccese”. In December 2004, in London, during an exhibition I met Jan and Jackie. My paper buds arrived in Carol’s hands, she needed roses for the Altarpiece of the Virgin in the rosebush. On first July I was there with my Italian paper. Women learnt quickly. For the magic of a red sun that colours everything of love and reminds you how the world began. Thank you Africa."
