Pick Me Also for Your Child

Madonnas and Children

These images show details from the stitched icons. Each piece of embroidery has been individually sewn by a village woman and shows herself and her lost child.

Virgin of the Roses

This work shows the skill of beading and cartapesta. Our Virgin of the Roses altarpiece is modelled on the Virgin in the Rose Bush at Colmar. It pays tribute to those who take in orphaned children in addition to their own, hence the exhibition title; “Pick Me Also for Your Child”.

Pick Me Also for Your Child Altarpiece

This altarpiece is in painting and stitch. The central panel has been sewn and appliquéd by a group of women friends. The surround images are oil paintings created by individual women each portraying her loss in her work.

The Icons

These images show works stitched in beading and embroidery; they all show a mother and child and measure approx 80cm x 50cm. Some of the icons have been mounted on modern traditional fabric used for women’s skirts.
