Thousands
of years ago the San, or Bushmen, painted cave walls and rocks depicting
hunting scenes, religious beliefs, commercial life, dancing and
their everyday struggle to survive. Some paintings are believed
to be as old as 26000 - 27000 years. The tradition of creating rock
art lasted until the late 19th century and the images remain in
the areas the San people once lived even though the artists and
their communities are long gone. Only recently has it been discovered
that the paintings hold deep spiritual and religious meaning.
The people of
the project create lino prints, which give much the same impression
of life and surroundings, as did the paintings of the Bushmen. Local
scenes and flora and fauna of the area have been captured and make
wonderful images for wall hangings, cards and book covers etc. |
